“The Benjamin D. Fearing Camp, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War in

Washington County is sponsoring a pot-luck dinner on Lincoln's birthday

February 12th, 2011. The dinner will be held 6:30 p.m. at the Masonic Lodge Building 1411 Putnam Howe Drive in Belpre, Ohio. This event will kick off the recognition events of the 150th anniversary of the American Civil War for Fearing Camp. Commander Dan Hinton will be speaking regarding the birth of Abraham Lincoln and key events during the early days of his presidency. This event is open to the public and guests are encouraged to bring a covered dish, but there will undoubtedly be plenty of food for those who cannot do so.” Ham, drinks and table service will be provided.

February 20, 2011 - Sunday, Washington’s Birthday Luncheon, 1:00pm , Ballroom, upstairs, American Legion Post #64, Wooster Streets Marietta, Ohio  Hosted by the Marietta Chapter, OHSSAR, Speaker: TBA, Cost: $12 adults, $5 youth, The Legion will serve Roast Beef and Chicken Buffet with special sides for youth.

April 5, 2010 – 7pm, Washington State Community College, “The First Rhode Island Regiment, America’s First Black Regiment”, Joe Becton of the 1st RI Regt. will present camp life, songs & stories & a discussion of the involvement of Generals Varnum & Washington at Valley Forge as they create an all Black Regiment, with slaves & freemen. Open to the public at no charge. Sponsored by Diversity and Social Justice Committee at Washington State Community College and Marietta SAR.

 

April 7, 2010 – 8 – 9am, Warren High School, “The First Rhode Island Regiment, America’s First Black Regiment”, Joe Becton of the 1st RI Regt. will present camp life, songs & stories & a discussion of the involvement of Generals Varnum & Washington at Valley Forge as they create an all Black Regiment, with slaves & freemen.Sponsored by Smith Concrete, Partner in Education and Marietta SAR. www.firstrhodeisland.org (limited to 800 students and WLSD quests).

 

April 7, 2010 – Commemoration to Celebrate the Founding of Marietta and the 225th Anniversary of Fort Harmar, 10:30am, Harmar School, three 15 min. sessions, 20 min. apart, 3rd – 5th grade (program 225th Fort Harmar through First Settlers); 12-12:30pm, East Muskingum Park, Start Westward Monument; 1-2pm Campus Martius Museum; Sponsored by: Marietta Chapter Sons of the American Revolution and Campus Martius Museum, programs in period costume.

July 2, 2010 – 8:30 to 10am, Continental Breakfast at American Legion Post 64, (8 th and Wooster Street, next to Oak Grove Cemetery) hosted by Marietta Chapter SAR for participants of Varnum Ceremony. Reservations requested. Free of charge to participants in uniform or period costume, $4 to all others. Free bus transport for parade participants to Campus Martius Museum and starting point of Processional.

Join us as we cruise up the tree lined Muskingum River and lock through Devol's Dam (Lock #2), one of the oldest, hand-operated river lock systems in America. Noted local historian, Scott Britton, will be aboard to entertain you with tales of the Revolutionary War patriots and pioneer settlers who settled the area. September 4 & 5, 2010 FORT HENRY DAYS, 13th Annual Grand Encampment and Battle Re-Enactment, Oglebay Resort, Wheeling, WV; British & Patriot Encampments;

Native American Village; Daily historical presentations. Ebenezer Zane Chapter, OHSSAR, St. Clairsville, OH participates and has a very nice exhibit.

 

September 4 & 5, 2010 - Fair at New Boston, 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Both Days, George Rogers Clark Park, Springfield, OH, info@grcha.org This fair is recognized as a premiere living history event. All the music, entertainment, clothing, methods of cooking, foods served, merchandise booths, and equipment used by the artisans are juried (or judged) to assure authenticity to the period(1790-1810). The George Rogers Clark Chapter OHSSAR participates with nice display

October 14, 2010 – Annual Dual Meeting and Dinner at American Legion Post 64, 8 th and Wooster St. Marietta, 6:30pm, Marietta Chapter host this year. Ewings in 2011. Invited DAR Chapters; Marietta; Nabby Lee Ames, Athens; Return Jonathan Meigs, Pomroy.

 

November 5, 1785 – 225 Years Ago, U.S. troops from the First American Regiment under the command of Major John Doughty arrived to construct Fort Harmar, named for Colonel Josiah Harmar, on elevated bottom land on the west side of the Muskingum River at its confluence with the Ohio River
