All will have special programs and exhibits to engage the area residents in the pursuit of their ancestral or cultural past. All the events are free to the public with the exception of the all day conference at Washington State Community College, the Long Rifle Show at the Lafayette Hotel and the historical societies' dinners. A bell ringing of the carillon at the First Congregational Church will be performed with various patriotic tunes. There will also be a 70-flag display and open house events at the Washington County Courthouse on both Sundays during this period. The flags are a historical collection used by Americans and their Revolutionary War allies throughout our country’s history to the 48-star flag.

Research opportunities: the Washington County Public Library, History and Genealogy Department, the Special Collections at Marietta College, the Washington County Historical Society Archives and the Daughters of the American Revolution Library will all participate with special extended hours to assist researchers.

Youth participation: All Washington County high schools have joined in an extended research project to scan and digitize the Josephine Phillips' 1810 Census Index Cards. The results of this project will be published in book form and the material will be placed on our website in a searchable database format. Many other high school and grade school groups are also working on special projects. The Boy Scouts have prepared a 5-mile Heritage Trail hike in Marietta with testing and awards. The Washington County 4-H will also be presenting programs during the 12-day period.

Overall Purpose: In the spring of 2007 our chapter began developing the PATRIOTS AND PIONEERS PROJECT to honor and perpetuate the memory of our rich local heritage. We have begun research on this project which will record comprensive accounts and stories of the Patriots (and their descendants who resided here at one point) with Washington County, Ohio connections who gave service during the American Revolution. It is our goal to publish a series of books called "REVOLUTIONARY WAR PATRIOTS OF WASHINGTON COUNTY, OHIO.  To enlist the support and help of the public we have established this web site
and collaborated with many societies, schools and libraries. A majority of the citizens of Washington County have bloodlines that run to the Patriots of the Revolution and most do not know their pioneer past.  I hope you will join us in this exciting new endeavor as we discover this history together!
